My favourite item to buy at thrift shops has got to be blazers cause they don’t really make em like this anymore! No really, they don’t! You will find the most old school, stylish and high quality blazers, jackets, coats and leather items there too. Majority of these clothes have hardly been worn. If you’re lucky you might find some high end designer stuff, I’m talking Chanel, Prada, Gucci, the works!
Clothes are weighed and sold per kilo. I got this blazer for R65 at Rags and Ribbons (opposite Curtain Dream, Haig Street, Witbank). The only major thing you’d have to do is maybe have the clothes dry cleaned to get the smell off if it’s bad. Some clothes date back to the 60s and 70s and have been packed away in suit cases/bales for literally decades. Maybe get a new set of shiny buttons too as some may have discolored or fallen off.
I like to wear a blazer with jeans. The semi-casual/ semi-formal look is perfect if you’re going out after work and it’s a nice chilled look for a casual Friday. Not too fussy. I’d opt for white Converse All Stars and a white T for an even more relaxed outfit.
My sister has recently discovered a number of people who sell very stylish vintage second hand clothes on Instagram at low prices. What might actually cost you more is the courier services for your new threads, that’s how affordable they are.
If you’re in Johannesburg try Rags and Lace (358 Jan Smuts, Randburg), I got a couple nice jackets there once.
